Upper Airway Infection

Just around 2 weeks ago, we noticed that Moo Moo's voice turned hoarse but there were no other symptoms accompanying it. We waited 2 - 3 days to see if it'll get better but alas, her lovely voice remained hoarse. So we brought her to see a GP as it was cheaper. The GP prescribed some mild anti-biotic and we dutifully fed Moo Moo the medicine.

However, she developed a fever after Christmas. It went as high as 37.8 even after taking the fever medicine. So we decided to bring her to see to see a PD at AMK Central. There were a lot of people there and waited for an hour before it's our turn. The PD thought it could be some viral infection and since Moo Moo was on anti-biotic, he asked us to do a urine test for Moo Moo. It turns out that there's nothing wrong with her urine.

A few days later, Moo Moo's still running a fever and her voice seemed to be even worse than before. She did not drink much milk nor eat much porridge. She will choke and cough with almost every few mouthful of milk that she drinks. She made yelpy coughing sound and she seemed to be in much discomfort. We were worried and do not know what to do as it was New Year and the clinic is not opened. The next morning, we decided to bring her to Kinder Clinic to try our luck. Along the way, we kept calling the clinic but there was no answer. Finally, after we parked the car, my hubby called again and this time the line was engaged which was good news cos it means the clinic was opened! We quickly made our way there and we saw Dr Lee instead of Dr Terrence Tan as the wait to see him was usually quite long. Dr Lee diagnosed Moo Moo's condition as upper airway infection which was milder but could develop into something serious. We were given the same anti-biotic that was given for the bacterial infection behind the ear some time back and some pills to be crushed into powder form.

Poor Moo Moo, we kept forcing her to eat medicine until she see the syringe and bottle also scared liao. I mixed one of the powdered medicine with water and thought she might drink from the bottle rather from the syringe. But she refused to take the bottle even after the medicine has been taken so much so that I have to force the bottle into her in order for her to drink her milk. It pained me greatly to do this but I had no other choice. Her weight went from 8.25kg to 7.9kg in less than a week. Sigh. So I had to make sure she eats something.

Then I suddenly remembered that the lucky charm that we bought from the fengshui master for Moo Moo. We used to put it in her bed. But we have been letting Moo Moo sleep on the mattress on the floor for safety and forgot to put the lucky charm on the mattress instead. I quickly put the lucky charm under her pillow and believe it or not, Moo Moo's and voice and temperature went back to normal on the same day and her appetite also came back gradually. Now she's almost recovered except that she's still coughing now and then, especially when drinking milk and at night. Hopefully her cough will stop real soon and she will not have to go through all this again...Sigh.
PS: For some strange reason, Moo Moo seemed to like the medicine now. I just have to slowly push the syringe a little at a time into the corner of her mouth and she will take all 3ml of it without splattering it out all over like she used to. Hee!
