Sick Moo Moo

I have been so busy taking care of Moo Moo that I have no time to blog. Yes, my baby is sick. She had fever since last Saturday afternoon and had a runny nose and diarrhoea. Initially we were ready to bring Moo Moo to Downtown East and I even dressed her up. But I discovered that she was sneezing a bit too often and she felt a little feverish. Not wanting to take any chances, I took her temperature and it was around 37.4 degree.

We immediately wanted to bring her to see a doctor but the clinic was already closed by then. So we gave her the fever medicine that was given for her vaccination some time back. I asked my hubby to check the medicine's expiry date as I remembered it had been in the fridge for quite some time. Luckily or not so luckily (depends on how you look at it), the expiry date is the very next day. After taking medication, Moo Moo's fever went down a little but by night time, it went up again. By then, we could see that she's in much discomfort but fortunately, she was still able to take her milk and play with her toys. However, when she was drinking her milk, she will cry every few seconds. We later realised that it's because she has a little bit of sorethroat. Sometimes, she will also have this 'dazed' and 'blur' look on her face. Guess she's too tired from the fever. She will also be scared and cry loudly when we tried to put a damp hanky on her forehead to bring down her temperature. I think the feeling of a damp hanky suddenly falling on her forehead frightens her....Sigh...

Moo Moo falling asleep after taking medicine...

I put her on our bed and for the first time, she slept for 4 straight hours in the daytime and I slept together with as I was exhausted taking care of her and trying to coax her to take the medicine. Medication time is always a nightmare. Each time, I have to wait for her to open her mouth so that I can feed her the medicine using a syringe. In fact, we had to hold her cheeks and force open her mouth to make her cry before I can 'shoot' the medicine down her throat. But my clever baby soon learnt to purse her lips and refused to open it, even when she's crying and even after she had fallen asleep. Haha!

On Sunday morning, we had not choice but to bring Xin Rui to see the GP cos most children clinics are not open on Sunday and we have no medicine left. The GP diagnosed her symptoms to be viral infection and gave 3 different kinds of medicine....Sigh....More medicine to take. Luckily, one of them is powder form and it could be dissolved in her milk.

By Sunday night, we thought she was recovering as there was little muscus and her bowels were normal but when we took her temperature the next morning, it shot up to 38.5 degree. Being worried, we decided to bring her to see her paediatrician, Dr Tan. We were told to wait outside the clinic as Xin Rui still had fever. Fortunately, the wait wasnt long but Dr Tan was not around, so we saw another paediatrician, Dr Lee instead. Actually I like both paediatricians and had no problem seeing either of them. As expected, Dr Lee diagnosed the same thing but went on to explain that viral fever usually lasts for a few days, sometimes up to 7 days. And Xin Rui also had some rash. Dr Lee explained that after the fever subsided, there might be more rashes to come but there's nothing to be alarmed. In the end, Dr Lee did not prescribe any more medication and just asked us to wait the fever out. For that we paid $60. Sigh...but at least now I know more about viral infection. :P

Now, Xin Rui's fever has somewhat subsided and she slept well through the night. Let's just hoped that she will recover very soon.
