I am a Mummy!

Life as a Mum starts on 15 February 2009 for me. Little Moo Moo is around 3 weeks early but she weighs 2.98kg at birth.

Weighing 2.98kg at birth

My birth process was somewhat dramatic and it happened while at work. I had a Valentine's Day event and I was at the CC at noon to oversee everything. My colleagues were all joking that my baby might decide to pop out on Valentine's Day and I could have a V-Day baby. Little did I know that Moo Moo decided to make their dream come true and come out so early. But she didn't make it for V-Day, she came out a day later instead. I guessed I also must have walked abit too much and Little Moo Moo couldn't stand it, so she decided to come out early and forced me to rest after so many night meetings and events.

I still remembered feeling a 'thud' sound and I thought, that feels weird. The next thing I knew, I could feel fluid trickling down my thighs. In my mind, I thought, 'Oh no, not now. As I was in the midst of work and had not even started to have my main course yet.' As the fluid kept on flowing, I quickly realise that this must be it and my waterbag had burst. I went to the toilet to check and thereafter informed my boss about it. Fortunately, my hubby was around and the CC was near to our house. So within 20 minutes, we got home and my hubby even managed to get some bread along the way. Haha.

Me just before going to hospital

Once I was home, I took a bath and my hubby fed our dog and even got time to get me coconut juice before we were on our way to the hospital. By around 9pm, I was in the hospital and slowly make my way to the delivery suite as I was experiencing some contractions by then and I was around 2cm dilated. The nurse said that my gynae normally let the patient have the epidural when they are around 5cm dilated but somehow, he said I could have my epidural earlier. Haha.

So one to two hours later, I got the epidural and went to sleep. I woke up another 2-3 hours later and my legs felt completely numb and weak, I couldn't even lift my left leg as I had been sleeping on my left side in order to speed up the birth process. By then I was 9cm dilated and my gynae was called in for the delivery. He thought that it would take at least another 4-5 hrs for me to give birth. But Moo Moo simply could not wait. Haha. After much pushing, we could see a little of Moo Moo's head and I simply had not much strength for pushing. We have no choice but to vacuum Moo Moo out as her heartbeat was dropping. Luckily, my gynae only need to vacuum a little to get Moo Moo out, so the shape of her head still looks ok. Moo Moo gave a loud cry immediately just to let us know she's ok and thereafter, she started to look around. I remembered that immediately after delivery, I started shivering quite badly (I later realised that it was due to the effects of the epidural.)

It's an amazing feeling to hold Moo Moo for the first time and see her curiously surveying the new environment. After the entire birth process, I remembered that I was just very very exhausted and fell asleep immediately after settling down in my ward which was empty.

But before falling asleep, I was thinking about Little Moo Moo and after 9 months, we finally meet. Welcome to the world, my Little Moo Moo.
