Look Ma, I am in P1!

It has been slightly more than one week since Xin Rui started her Primary One journey. She seemed neither nervous nor scared. On her first day, she simply put on her new school uniform all by herself and quietly waited for us to bring her to school. When I asked if she was scared or nervous, she just shook her head. I think my hubby and I were more nervous than her. But I beamed with pride as I saw how good she looked in her uniform, just as I had imagined in the past.

Xin Rui adjusted to her new life at the primary school much better than I anticipated. There she was crying and throwing tantrums when we first sent her to the childcare centre. And now, she is slightly more confident and surprise surprise, no tears at all. She still throw a little tantrum now and then when she cannot expressed what she wants or she insisted that the cover of the drawing block was different from the teacher and her classmates, and hence 'is not correct'. But these are mild compared to the times she refused to put on her uniform to go childcare and I basically had to carry and hold her in the car as she will just open the car door and attempt to run home.

Fortunately, that phase has passed. :P

Now she is just an adorable girl without her front tooth, did I mentioned she dropped her front tooth on the first day of 2016? I know I am biased but I still think she looks adorable, even without her front tooth. Haha!

While there will be more stress in future from exams etc, I just hope that she will enjoy her time in primary school for now and hopefully for the next 6 years to come.

Tooth Fairy

Xin Rui lost her first bottom tooth during our trip to Japan in October this year. A short while later, another one dropped out. Fortunately, her new teeth had grown and now fully replaced the gap.

What was surprising was that Xin Lin also lost her bottom tooth last Saturday. Unlike her sister, she was quite gung-ho about it and kept on wriggling and pulling the tooth out though there was a lot of blood. However, her new tooth has not fully grown yet and I guess it will take a while for it to grow.

Sigh...time does flies. my babies are no longer babies. :P

It's been 3 years...

I can't believed that it has been more than 3 years since I last blogged about my daughters.

I remembered trying to blog but the system just does not allow me to update my blog and I gave up after a few tries.

Today, I stumbled upon my blog and decided to read my past posts. As I read through some of the posts, I couldn't help smiling at some of the silly things that my daughters did when they were young.

Then I decided that I should continue blogging so that we will have something to remember by in the future.

Now both of my gals are already in K2 and K1. Xin Rui will be going to Primary School next year and I feel excited and worried for her. She has been an extrovert and keeps to herself like when I was her age. So I am worried that she might not be able to adapt to Primary School very well. I still remembered that she took quite a long time to get used to pre-school and she will cry almost everyday when we sent her to school.

Hopefully this time round, she will be a brave girl and not cry when she is in a completely new environment.

Three...or four is too crowded...

Our bed has been crowded since the arrival of Xin Rui and then Xin Lin. After shifting to our new place, I finally got my two daughters to sleep in their own bedroom but I had to accompany them and wait till they fall asleep before climbing back to my own bed.

A few months ago, I started to let them sleep on their own without accompanying them. After the routine of reading their usual bedtime story and getting a dozen kisses and hugs, I will switch off the lights and go back to my own bed. Initially, they refused to let me go back to my own room and will whine or cry for my company. I have to compromise by sitting near the door to let them know that I am just nearby. After some time,  I shift further away and stand at the corridor in front of their room. They became used to the idea of sleeping by themselves and I finally can sleep in my own bed!

Though they will still climb into our bed once in a while, the number of times of that occurring has decreased significantly. :)

Potty Training 2

With Xin Lin training to do diaperless, I though it's time to let Xin Rui go diaperless at night. So far, she does not wear diapers in the day but I let her wear at night. Two days ago, I let her do diaperless and she woke up in the middle of the night and I brought her to the toilet. Yesterday, I tried again but Xin Rui ended up sleeping with my Mum and my Mum put up diaper for her, thinking that I forgot to do so. Sigh.

Well, I will try again tonight. *Cross fingers*

Potty Training for Xin Lin

Just a few days ago, Xin Lin suddenly announced that she wants to go to the toilet to pee. I entertained her and brought her to the toilet, thinking it is good to start potty training for her. However, she just sat on the toilet bowl and did not pee. Then the following day, she requested to go to the toilet again. This time, she did pee in the toilet bowl. But still, I thought it was only a fluke.

However, just yesterday, she suddenly want to go diaperless and requested to go to the toilet to pee again. This time, she surprised me by really peeing in the toilet bowl. Needless to say, that makes two happy persons, me and Xin Lin because Xin Lin looked proud as we praised her and gave her lots of encouragement.

Looking forward to seeing my little Xin Lin going diaperless soon! :)

"Mummy, I am potty trained now."

蚂蚁来了

My little princess Xin Lin has been sucking her thumb ever since she's just a few months old.
I have tried various methods to stop her from sucking her thumb, eg. nagging at her, pulling her thumb out of her mouth repeatedly, pinching her nose, etc. even contemplated putting bittergourd juice or lemon juice on her thumb but decided against it. Just when I have decided to give up, a miracle happened.

One week ago while going through my nightly routine of reading my gals their bedtime story and tucking them into bed, I asked Xin Lin to take her thumb out of her mouth. She did for a while before popping it back again. Then I said '蚂蚁来了,它要爬进你的嘴巴里。' Somehow that scared her and she did not dare to put her thumb back into her mouth for the entire night.

Thinking it might just a fluke. I tried it again the next night and Xin Lin did not suck her thumb. This has go on for around a week and so far, I only need to remind her once or twice and she will not suck her thumb anymore. Hope this will continute. :)

Who would have thought that this little 6-legged insect would solve my daughter's thumb sucking problem? :)

Potty Training Updates

A few days ago, Xin Rui finally went to the toilet to do her erm. big business. I was elated as this is the first time she ever take the initiative to poo in the toilet bowl.

Then yesterday she did it again...:)

Her teachers at the childcare centre told me that Xin Rui always go to the toilet at school and does not wear her diapers. But she normally prefer to wear her diaper at home. However, the frequency of her wanting to wear her panties instead of diaper at home has increased recently.

Slowly but surely, we are going diaperless and that means saving more money! :)

Child's Talk 3

This was a recent conversation between my little gal, Xin Lin and her grandma:

Grandma: 妹妹,要不要吃水果?(pointing to some cherries)
XL: 婆婆,是cherry。我要吃cherry。

It reminds me of the milk powder advertisement where the father was 'teaching' his kid how to say flower and the little kid said 'Orchid'. :)

Child's Talk 2

Another conversation with Xin Lin goes like this:

Me: 妹妹,该刷牙睡觉啦。
XL (focusing intently on busy typing away on the keyboard): 不要吵我  (gives a cute little pout)
Me: 已经那么迟了,你在做什么?
XL:不要吵我,我在做东西。(and she gave another pout)
Me: 那好吧,妈咪就不用读故事给你听咯。
XL:我要听!(and she quickly scrambled down from the chair and ran to the toilet to brush her teeth)

Hee!
